Awareness Night Unites Valley Stream Central HS Students

The Peer Mentors Club at Central High School in the Valley Stream Central High School District hosted Awareness Night for students on Dec. 6. The event was geared toward promoting trust, unity and kindness among students while focusing on the issue of bullying.

Fifty peer mentors, who were nominated by staff, led the five-hour event, which included a variety of activities to foster a greater sense of awareness on the subject of bullying. Students also watched a video clip relating to bullying, and peer mentors led discussions about student reactions.

The event served as an important learning experience for students, allowing them to build relationships with their peers. At the conclusion of the evening, students were asked to share all they had learned with their friends, and to exemplify model behavior in their lives.
