Teaching health and wellness

Students from South High School recently visited elementary students at Brooklyn Avenue School and William L. Buck School in Valley Stream School District 24 to host lessons on health and wellness.

The South High School students, who are members of the Athletic Honor Society, were recently selected to participate in wellness training sessions at Adelphi University held by the Nassau County School Wellness Coalition. They interacted with doctors and wellness trainers, and later went on to create health lessons.

When visiting District 24, South High School students taught lessons on health and wellness to second-graders. They organized several learning stations for younger students, including a tasting station so students learned the benefits of whole foods; a fitness and exercise station; and an ingredient label reading station, where students learned about healthy and unhealthy ingredients in foods and beverages. The younger students learned a wealth of knowledge, and the lessons made for unforgettable experiences.
