The district congratulates North High School senior Carla Perez on being recognized by the Long Island Arts Alliance as one of 20 Long Island Scholar-Artists. According to the LIAA’s website, this awards program identifies students judged to be “the best of the best” on Long Island in both academics and the arts.

Carla was nominated by teacher Allan Nafte and submitted a portfolio of her work to the LIAA, along with an essay that focused on how the arts have enriched students’ lives. She also met the academic requirement of a 90 or above GPA.

An award-winning artist in contests such as the Congressional Art Competition, Carla’s focus is on painting and drawing. She is a member of the high school’s Art Club, Olympics, Visual Arts Club and Grade Council and volunteers at the Creative Art Space for Kids studio. She plans to pursue art studies in college.

Carla celebrated her achievement at the LIAA reception on Sept. 9. She will also be honored at the annual LIAA gala held toward the end of the school year.
