Valley Stream CHSD Welcomes Special Education Director

The Valley Stream Central High School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. William Bushman as director of special education. Dr. Bushman, whose role took effect on Nov. 16, was formally welcomed at the Nov. 10 Board of Education meeting.

Dr. Bushman comes to Valley Stream with a strong background in school district administration. He most recently served as assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services in the Smithtown Central School District, prior to which he held a two-year post as assistant superintendent for human resources and a four-year role as director of student services in the Shoreham-Wading River CSD. Dr. Bushman also has experience as an assistant administrator for special education and special services, a district chairperson for a Committee on Special Education, and a district chairperson for a Committee on Preschool Special Education.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Bushman was a school psychologist for more than a decade. He has also worked as a school psychologist at Just Kids Early Childhood Center and as a licensed clinical psychologist in several nursing homes. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stony Brook University and both a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Hofstra University. He prepared for his certification as a school district administrator at the College of New Rochelle.  

Dr. Bushman is a lifelong resident of Long Island and is married with two children.
