The Valley Stream Central High School District congratulates North High School senior Carla Perez and Central High School junior Kimberly Rambarran on earning second and third place, respectively, in the Art Guild’s 2015 Nassau County Student Exhibition and Competition. Additionally, CHS junior Cathleen Liang was awarded an honorable mention for her work.

All three students were coached through the exhibition and competition processes by their teachers. Carla was advised by Allan Nafte in submitting her self-portrait, “The Artist’s Shoes.” Mario Bakalov guided Kimberly, who entered a white charcoal drawing titled “Small Glass,” and Cathleen, who created the pencil drawing “Self Portrait.” They were among only six award recipients at this event, which displayed more than 50 works from students throughout the county.

“These awards are a testament to not only the students’ hard work, but also to all of the art teachers in the Valley Stream Central High School District who do such an outstanding job of inspiring all of the young artists in their classes every day,” said District Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Adam Erdos. “They all deserve our congratulations for these achievements.”

Seven other students represented the district with art that was accepted for exhibit. Along with Carla, Kimberly and Cathleen, North High School students Nicolette Duggan, Katie Eng, Alexandra Mashcow, Tiffany Praimnath, Jamie Selletti, Devika Shastri and Alexandra Valmé had their work featured in the Manhasset gallery.
