Valley Stream South High School’s 2014-2015 literary art magazine, Coexist Together, was awarded first place from American Scholastic Press Association. Additionally, the National Council of Teachers of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines identified the publication as “Excellent” based on a points system.

A number of talented students contributed to the magazine, which was designed by teacher Lorene Bossong, as writers and artists. Ayanna Curry, Chelsea Hicks and Desiree Landau did an excellent job assisting Ms. Bossong as editors. Many English and art teachers supported the magazine as well.

Coexist Together earned 940 points out of a possible 1000 in the ASPA contest, and moved up in the ranks from last year, when it took second place with 730 points. As a winner, South High School is included in the association’s awards booklet, the American Scholastic Journalist. The school also received a certificate from the NCTE for the PRESLM honor, which the magazine has earned for the past three years.
