South High School Students Honored for Writing

Four South High School students have received recognitions from the National Council of Teachers of English. Juniors Virginia Maloney and Wesley Tsai earned superior writing awards through the Achievement Awards in Writing program, while certificates of recognition from the Promising Young Writers program were presented to eighth-graders Evan Miller and Manal Moid.

Achievement Awards in Writing Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program that encourages high school students in their writing and publicly recognizes some of the best student writers in the nation. The Promising Young Writers program aims to stimulate and recognize student's writing talents and to emphasize the importance of writing skills among eighth-graders. For both programs, students were asked to submit two writing samples; one believed to reflect the contestant’s “best work” and the other based on a theme.
