Fifteen ninth-grade science research students from Memorial Junior High School visited North Woodmere Park, where they engaged in hands-on learning activities. Under the direction of science teachers Catherine Adee and Benjamin Tangney, the group collected biodiversity samples from the salt marsh for analysis.

The students will use their findings to conduct DNA identification in conjunction with the Cold Spring Harbor DNA Learning Center. They will compare the salinity of these samples, which come from the site where a fresh water stream empties into Hewlett Bay, with those previously taken from the stream behind Central High School.
