Kamillah Dawkins has joined the Valley Stream Central High School District as assistant principal of Memorial Junior High School. She is filling the role previously held by Bret Strauss, who was appointed to principal earlier this school year.

Ms. Dawkins, a resident of Baldwin, previously served as assistant principal of humanities and guidance at the New York City Charter High School for Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industries. Prior to that role, she worked in the Uniondale School District for 11 years as a high school social studies teacher and summer school assistant principal at the secondary level. She created a number of study abroad trips that afforded students with cultural opportunities to explore countries such as Germany, Budapest and Prague.

Among the classes Ms. Dawkins taught in Uniondale was Advanced Placement World History, for which she created and implemented the curriculum. During her tenure, the district was included in the College Board’s 5th Annual AP District Honor Roll based on access to AP courses in combination with student performance on exams.

“I’m excited to join the Valley Stream Central High School District and bring knowledge from my other roles in to build on the academic success,” Ms. Dawkins stated. “I also look forward to working with pupil personnel to focus on the development of the whole child.”

Ms. Dawkins obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from St. John’s University and Masters of Arts Degree from Hofstra University.
