Valley Stream South High School senior Ricky Vargas is one of only three  talented Long Island students to earn a Juror’s Award in the Advanced Visions 13: High School Artists of Excellence competition. He will be formally honored by the LIU Post Art Department at an awards ceremony on Jan. 25.

The Advanced Visions 13: High School Artists of Excellence exhibit is currently being showcased in the Student Art League Gallery at LIU Post through Jan. 25. It features the work of high school students enrolled in advanced art programs. The Juror’s Award is presented for outstanding artistic achievement in the areas of development of concept, method and form.  

Ricky’s winning graphite piece is titled, “Restraining Hatred.” He has earned numerous achievements in the arts throughout his high school years, including an Award of Excellence in the Art League of Long Island’s Go APE event, selection to the Heckscher Museum’s “Long Island’s Best” Exhibit, a second place award in the Congressional High School Art Competition and a first place award in the Port Washington Art Guild.
