Valley Stream Acting Students Shine at Competition

Valley Stream Central High School’s acting students, along with Central High School teachers Elizabeth Kott and Rick Hoffman, participated in Hofstra University's annual Shakespeare Days scene and design competition on March 9. The group, which included students from North and South high schools, represented the district’s Performing Arts Program with professionalism and maturity while attending workshops and interacting with students from other schools.

The Valley Stream attendees took home four of the five awards distributed during the day. Central High School student Ayana Franck received Best Costume Design, Central High School student James Jones Jr. earned Best Scenic Design, North High School student Riya Kaur was named Best Actor, and the entire cast of a scene from The Tempest was awarded Best Ensemble.

The ensemble members included Central High School students Walter Alvarez, Sahrina Bullock, Tony Enderica, Alexia Kellarakos, Ogechi Okoko, Crystal Ortiz, Michele-Christina Pennycooke, Anastacia Pereira, Diamond Peterson, Aqueen Roseborough, Megan Sharma, Kaith Silva, Jessica Wilkins and Eyanna Young-Edwards, North High School student Riya Kauer and South High School student Joanna Argueta. A performance of their winning scene will be presented at the next Performing Arts Showcase, to be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 22 at Central High School.
