Two students from the Valley Stream Central High School District received distinctions and spotlight for their artwork in the Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum exhibition. Congratulations to South High School senior Ricky Vargas and Central High School sophomore Christina Mui.

Ricky received a first-place award for his graphite pencil/charcoal piece, “Restraining Hatred.” Christina won the Promising Young Artist Award for her color pencil illustration, “The Mahjong Players.” Their works of art, which are among only 84 selected out of 387 submissions from students across Long Island, will be displayed through April 9.

Students in grades 9-12 from Nassau and Suffolk counties had the opportunity to enter by creating their own pieces based on artwork currently showcased in the museum.
