Julienne Poitevien, a junior at Valley Stream Central High School, earned second place in the Northeast Council of Teachers of Japanese Speech Contest for High School Students held on Monday, March 20, at the United Nations International School in New York City. She will now compete in the National High School Japanese Speech Contest on Saturday, May 27 at the University of Irvine in California, with travel expenses paid for by the organization. Julienne’s speech, entitled, “Power of Motivation”, was about her experiences learning the Japanese language over the last five years. She is currently a student in Japanese AP Language and Culture.
