The Valley Stream Central High School District hosted the Council of PTA’s 56th annual Lights On for Education on April 27 at Memorial Junior High School. The evening featured comprehensive displays and presentations on the academic, performing arts, visual arts and physical education programs throughout the fourteen Valley Stream elementary and secondary schools. This year’s theme was “Let Your Vision Illuminate the World Around You.”

The event offered parents and other residents opportunities to witness the many enriching learning experiences that prepare students for their next level of education and eventually, college and careers. Superintendents and students from each of the four districts spoke during an opening ceremony and Board of Education members participated in a ribbon-cutting.

Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education President Cristobal Stewart praised the students, as well as their families and educators. “Your work on display here tonight represents the intellectual curiosity that we have all come to expect of you,” he said. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich also discussed the importance of Lights On for Education.

Attendees explored demonstrations from the students of Central, North, South and Memorial in areas such as culinary arts, family and consumer sciences, cosmetology, fine and performing arts and physical education.
