Valley Stream North High School Track and Field/Cross Country Coach Tim Boyens has been recognized as a recipient of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Coach of the Year Award. He was selected for this honor based on his experience coaching track and field and cross country, as well as his participation in league/sectional committees and contributions as a positive role model.

Under the leadership of Coach Boyens, along with Coach Mike Frazer and several assistant coaches, North’s teams have achieved many triumphs. In the last ten years, the Boys Cross Country Team has been named County Champions, Conference Champions and Division Champions three times. The Girls Cross Country Team took the titles of County Champions in 2010 and Division Champions in 2007.

The Boys Winter Track and Field Team has earned County Champions titles six times since 2011, and has maintained a successful streak as Conference Champions every year since 2006. The Girls Winter Track and Field Team boasts similar successes, with five County Champions titles since 2009 and Conference Champions distinctions almost every year since 2005, with the exception of 2007.

The spring track and field teams both present extraordinary statistics. The boys team has held a League Meet Record since 2006, with 176 wins and no losses, while the girls have secured 174 wins with only two losses. Looking back all the way to 2005, the boys team has been named County Champions 10 times, Conference Champions 12 times and Division Champions 11 times, while the girls team has been crowned County Champions six times, Conference Champions 11 times and Division Champions 11 times.

In addition to the remarkable team accomplishments, Boyens has coached five individual state champions and a national champion, as well as All-State and All-American athletes.

“I have been fortunate to work with some great coaches and athletes over the years and you can see we have been very successful as a team,” Boyens stated. He has been an educator and coach at North for 19 years and teaches Living Environment and science classes.
