Valley Stream Central High School junior Christina Mui has been named a first place/Best in Show winner for her colored pencil drawing in the Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition and Exhibition. She was formally recognized at a reception and ceremony on Nov. 5 at the Art Guild at Elderfields in Port Washington.

Christina’s piece, "Cee-Cee and Penny," was selected by a jury of professional artists to be displayed at the Art Guild for the month of November along with more than 40 other creative works from students across Nassau County.

“There were over 100 entries and we are very proud that Christina has been recognized with a best in show award,” said teacher Mario Bakalov. “Her talent, work ethic, and positive attitude demonstrates some the best qualities of our students at Central.”

Christina created her award-worthy piece in class as part of her AP Studio Art portfolio. Last year, she won the Promising Young Artist Award from the Heckscher Museum as part of the Long Island’s Best Young Artists Exhibition.
