The Valley Stream Central High School District’s talented dance students presented a concert on Feb. 9 and 10 in Keller Auditorium. The event featured Dance Concentration participants from the Performing Arts Program, which includes students from Central, North and South, and also spotlighted members of Central’s extra-curricular dance club.

A total of 50 dancers showcased 18 student- and faculty-choreographed pieces. They encompassed a variety of genres including ballet, hip hop, lyrical, jazz and contemporary and many pieces explored impactful themes such as hope, suicide prevention, forgiveness and the overuse of technology in society.

The Dance Concentration students practice under the direction of teacher Kristin Martine and participate in a double period every other day. They learn vocabulary, basic technique, dance fundamentals and dance history and take on opportunities to choreograph. The Dance Club is audition-based and is open to all students at Central who wish to try out.
