Valley Stream North High School’s Social Studies Department led a trip for tenth-grade students to the Holocaust Museum and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove. Students took a guided tour throughout the museum and were exposed to the myriad of primary and secondary source documents from survivors and their families.

The students worked with replicas of significant artifacts of the Holocaust and WWII and draw conclusions from multiple historical perspectives. Most notably, they were afforded the opportunity to listen to the courageous stories of Holocaust survivors and engage in a question and answer session afterwards.

North’s social studies students learned a great deal about WWII, the Holocaust, other human rights violations throughout history and the importance of being an “upstander” rather than a “bystander.”
