Valley Stream Central High School celebrated National Library Week and National Poetry Month from April 16-20. The initiative featured educational activities for students, thanks to the efforts of Library Media Specialist Lisa DiChiara and other library staff in collaboration with the English and Performing Arts departments.

On April 18, students shared original poetry, recited favorite poems and discussed books that have impacted them. Acting students from the Performing Arts department performed before audiences of peers on April 19. Additionally, a Library Luncheon was held and presented library enhancements professional development to staff members.

The week also included a Poem in Our Pocket Scavenger Hunt, for which students uncovered poems hidden in origami pockets that the Japanese classes created, and completed analyses in exchange for prizes.
