South High School eighth-grader Alysse Fazal has been recognized as a Promising Young Writer by the National Council of Teachers of English. She earned a Certificate of Recognition for Superior Performance in Writing after submitting a 10-page portfolio and short story on the theme, “Truth and Reconciliation.” 

Alysse is among 44 certificate recipients out of 129 students across the country that participated in the contest. Works were evaluated by two national judges based on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development and style. 

According to the NCTE, this school-based writing program stimulates and recognizes student’s writing talents and emphasizes the importance of writing skills among eighth-grade students. Each year, the competition provides a prompt to inspire entrants’ creativity.
