Artwork by Central High School senior Rico Ford has been selected to represent the 5th Congressional District in Washington, D.C. Annually, each Congressional District selects one piece of artwork from its represented communities to display in the underground walkway between the Congressional Offices and the Capitol Building for an entire year.

An awards ceremony and unveiling will be held in late June and Rico’s work will be framed and showcased. With the support of art teacher Mario Bakalov, he has received several other major distinctions this year for his work including fourth place and the People’s Choice Award at the Long Island’s Best Young Artists exhibit, selection for publication in the Shanti Fund’s calendar and the Art Guild Scholarship for 2018. He also contributed an illustration for the cover of the Valley Stream Village Summer Recreation Guide.

Rico is graduating in June and will pursue his dream of creating illustrations and special effects for film and television when he attends the Fashion Institute of Technology in the fall.
