Longtime Math Educator at Central HS Takes Department Chair Post photo
The Valley Stream Central High School District has appointed longtime math department member Maureen Duda as department chair of mathematics at Central High School. An 18-year veteran at Central and in the district, she has focused on fostering collegiality while balancing academic rigor and new opportunities for growth.
 
Ms. Duda joined the district in 2000 as a mathematics teacher. She has taught AP Statistics, Algebra 2, geometry and a college-level pre-calculus course. She has assisted in writing and revising curriculum, introduced instructional technology in the classroom, implemented capstone projects for the Regents courses and prepared students for assessments, among other responsibilities. 

In 2003 she served as assistant chairperson for Central’s math department, which involved administrative duties. She has additionally held a post as student activities director, in which capacity she organized events and opportunities, and has coached girls junior varsity basketball and varsity soccer teams. 

Ms. Duda obtained her Bachelor of Science from Misericordia University and two master’s degrees from Queens College of CUNY. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
