Twelve students from Valley Stream Central High School competed in the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference from June 28 to July 1 in Baltimore, Maryland. There were over 10,000 student competitors in attendance from all over the country, and as far as Puerto Rico and even China. The NLC program features 60 unique business and career readiness events and each features upwards of 125 competitors per event.

The students from Central performed admirably in seven different categories, yielding four National Finalists. These awards represented half of New York’s total and include the three highest placings, statewide. Amisha Tewari, Safiyyah Savage and Sophia Steele were named First Place National Champions in Broadcast Journalism, marking the fourth consecutive year that Central has won first place in a national event. Samiah Davis won Second Place in Business Plan. Nader Ahmed and Gwyneth Pascual achieved Fourth Place in Website Design and Chinonye Okoli and Jeannine Nwade earned Fifth Place in Emerging Business Issues.
