The Valley Stream Central High School District congratulates Central High School senior Christina Mui for earning a Scholar-Artist Award from the Long Island Arts Alliance. She is among 20 students throughout Long Island to achieve this recognition, and one of only four that were honored in the area of visual arts.

Scholar Artists were selected based on their exemplary talent and ability in one of five categories of art, as well as academic achievements across the curriculum.

“Christina has won nearly every major high school art award on Long Island over the past two years,” said teacher Mario Bakalov. These distinctions include the Promising Young Artist Award from the Heckscher Museum’s Best Young Artists Exhibition, first place/Best in Show in the Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition and Exhibition and first place in the Congressional Art Competition. Additionally, she is a National Honor society member in math, science, music, English and language.

Christina and the other honorees were recognized on Sept. 13 at the Tilles Center on the campus of Long Island University. In the coming months she will have a full-page bio printed in the pages of Newsday, and will received a scholarship to the college of her choice.
