A total of eight students in the Valley Stream Central High School District have received acceptances to the New York State School Music Association’s All-State ensembles. Performers will take the spotlight at the 2018 NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester from Nov. 29-Dec. 2.

Central High School juniors Santina Leone and Emmett Conway will participate in the mixed chorus and wind ensemble, respectively. Arianna Picillo, also a junior, was selected as a mixed chorus alternate. All have previously been involved in All-County ensembles, the District Music Festival and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Santina participates in Central’s select choir while Emmett is a member of the band and plays French horn. He has been part of the Mannes Pre-College Division and Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. Arianna performs in musicals and choirs outside of school and took the musical theater course.

From North High School, seniors Selina Barnes, Amelia Cossentino, Kailyn Fan and Luiz Felipe were selected as All-State performers. Selina and Luiz will join the mixed chorus, while Amelia will play tuba in the wind ensemble. Kailyn will participate in the string orchestra as a violinist. Amelia and Kailyn were both selected as alternates last year and all four students have taken the spotlight through All-County and the District Music Festival. Luiz and Selina are both members of North’s chorus, and Selina has also been in the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Manhattan Girls Chorus and Cathedral of the Incarnation choirs. Amelia is a Tri-M, band and chorus member at North and attended the New York State Summer School of the Arts this past summer. Kailyn has been selected for the Long Island String Festival Association concerts in the past, has been part of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and is involved in the school’s orchestra and Breakfast Club ensemble.

South High School senior Tessa Yan was selected for the symphonic band. She plays the clarinet and has been in All-County band and orchestra in the past. At South, she has participated in wind ensemble, pit orchestra and Tri-M. She has also performed in the District Music Festival and has been in the LIU Post Band Festival for the past three years.
