Valley Stream South High School student Chibugo Obichere kicked off her senior year as a four-time state track champion – a status she has earned in the 55- and 100-meter hurdles. This is her fifth year as a varsity track star and she holds 12 county champion titles.

As a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, which achieved champion status at the Penn Relays last year, Chibugo received All-State honors. The Long Island Track and Field Coaches Association presented her with the All-Long Island Award and named her Sprinter of the Year, and Newsday designated her as an Athlete of the Year award winner.

In addition to her success on the track, Chibugo holds All-County distinctions as a varsity basketball player.

“Chibugo is a remarkable athlete, a powerful leader and dedicated competitor,” said coach Nicole Bertrami. “She is the kind of athlete that brings out the best in everyone. Chibugo is destined for greatness and her accomplishments will leave a forever footprint at Valley Stream South.”
