The Valley Stream Central High School District’s Nov. 13 Board of Education Meeting paid a special tribute to South High School’s Lady Falcons soccer team. After being the 18 seed in the Section VIII Class A playoff bracket, the team rose to the challenge of earning their first-ever New York State Championship title.

In addition to making their way to No. 1 in New York State, the Falcons are now ranked fourth in the entire country by USA Today. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich, Board of Education President John Maier, District Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Scott Stueber, South High School Principal Maureen Henry, South High School Athletic Director John Kostkowicz and Head Coach Demetri Adrahtas stood before the audience and congratulated the team members. One by one, each Lady Falcon was called up to accept a certificate of recognition.

Coach Adrahtas thanked members of the administrators, Board of Education and community. “We fed off your passion, your pride and your spirit. This run not only showcased [the team] but it also the Valley Stream community.”

The meeting also featured honors presented in acknowledgment of Board Recognition Week, which was celebrated nationally in October. South High School students presented a photo collage of their new field as a gift to the Board.
