Memorial Junior High School held a Volunteer Fair on Dec. 12 in partnership with the Valley Stream community. Students were able to utilize their lunch periods to speak with representatives of local organizations about ways to become involved in important causes and make a difference within the community. The agencies represented included House of Hope, Long Island Cares, Operation Splash, Sparkle Empowerment Program for Girls, The I.N.N., SIBS Place, South Nassau Communities Hospital, The W.A.N.T.E.D. Project, Valley Stream Junior Fire Department, Valley Stream Youth Council, Central-Memorial PTSA and the Police Explorers.

Organized by School Counselor Ally Panos and Social Worker Jen Magnes, the fair was presented through Pupil Personnel Services as a way to encourage students to explore their interests, develop an increased sense of social responsibility, apply academic learning to real human need, foster relationships and communication skills, define possible career paths through community service and build positive relationships with peers and adults within the Valley Stream community.
