Valley Stream South Girls Varsity Track and Field Team: Class B County Champions

Valley Stream South High School’s girls winter track and field team members were crowned Class B County Champions on Feb. 5.  The Lady Falcons were victorious in a competitive 18-team county meet, earning a score of 81 with Hewlett trailing closely behind with 75.

Chibugo Obichere, South’s four-time State Champion and team co-captain, is the County Champion in the 55 meter dash and 55 meter hurdles. Co-captain De Anna Martin, who is currently ranked in the top five for the state 1000 meters and 600 meters, is the County Champion in the 1000, 600 and earned All-County honors in 1500 meters as well. Lindsey Smith, also co-captain, is the County Champion in the triple jump and All-County in the long jump. 

These girls, coupled with a County Champion 4x400 meter relay team comprised of freshman Nia Anjou and Lauren Perkins, sophomore Kaitlyn Ross and junior Allyson Camacho clinched the county title for the team. The 4x200 meter team that included Kaitlyn and Allyson along with freshman Ariana Gilbride and Junior Christina Hillary added needed points to secure the win overall.
