For the sixth consecutive year, Valley Stream North High School’s Spartans winter track and field team won the Nassau County Class B Team Championship, scoring 91 points and finishing on top of a strong field of 28 teams. Seaford High School was the closest competitor to the Spartans, finishing in second-place with 49 points. The Spartans were led by freshman jump sensation Ryan John who scored 22 of the Spartans’ 91 points. Ryan is the County Champion in the triple jump event, and also finished second in the long jump and 4th place in the High Jump. Senior Bernadin Fluerima Jr. is the County Champion in the Shot Put event, and also finished third in the 25-pound weight throw. Christian Cicilia was second-place in the 1000 meter run and third in the 1600 meter run. Also earning All-County honors were Dan Araneo (third-place in the pole vault), Matthew Foster (second-place in the 55 meter hurdles), Mathew Marrone (third-place in the 3200 meter run) and Jacob Schoenfeld (third-place in the 300 meter dash). This the eighth county title over the past 9 years for the Spartans. The team has won the past 14 straight Conference Championships as well.

The Lady Spartan winter track and field team finished in fourth-place out of 28 teams, scoring 43 points. Juel Charles won the shot put and finished third in the 20 pound weight throw event. Eighth-grader Tori Daniel is the County Champion in the 300 meter dash, improving on her best time to 41.30 seconds! Also earning All-County honors was the 4x200 meter relay team, comprised of Ariana Paul, Danielle Phillip, Idalis St. Juste and Daniels.
