The Valley Stream Council of PTAs will present the 58th anniversary of “Lights on for Education” on April 11 at 7:15 p.m. at Memorial Junior High School. This exciting event will involve a comprehensive program of displays and presentation on the academic, performing arts, display arts, and physical education programs in the fourteen Valley Stream elementary and secondary schools comprising elementary Districts Thirteen, Twenty-Four, Thirty and the High School District.

“Lights On” originated in New York State in 1962 as a statewide PTA project to emphasize and promote the passage of vital education bills in the state legislature. In Valley Stream, it grew and became more elaborate over the years. The presentations rotate each year so that each school district has an opportunity to showcase its students’ achievements in each of the four areas.

The evening will begin with a video presentation, which will be followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony with musical performances. Various workshops and demonstrations will then provide parents with many opportunities to witness the learning that takes place in each building and participate in informative discussions.
