A total of 30 students from the Valley Stream Central High School District attended Northwell Health’s SPARK Challenge on April 11 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Twelve members of the science research program at South and eight from that at Central earned awards for their presentations about a profession at Northwell Health.

A team from Central won third place for their poster focusing on the role of nursing, and received a $2,000 prize. Congratulations to Aleena Abraham, Maheen Babar, Kayla Dhanipersaud, Melisha Gonseka, Juliana Hernandez, Tyler Hwang, Ronie Rocca and Khadija Zahid for this outstanding accomplishment. 

South students Abubakr Ahmad, Mahnoor Ayaz, Sofia Gaston, Maegan Lewis, Zeeshan Memon, Evan Miller, Manal Moid, Milan Morris, Jesse Orozco, Nabiha Subzwari, Uche Ugbor and Faith Vale were awarded with an Honorable Mention in their division and won a $1,000 prize for the team. They presented the role of a health educator.

A team of 10 North students also participated, and represented their research about the work of a nurse educator.

Congratulations to all who took part in this opportunity and spent time exploring professions in the medical field.
