As the sun shined brightly outside of 750 Herman Avenue, Valley Stream North’s cafetorium was illuminated by the joy and camaraderie of the National Honor Society and ENL Buddy Program. The 125 student participants served as exemplars of North’s core values of respect, integrity and kindness as they helped to construct more than 1,400 sandwiches for the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN).

Motivated by a desire to help food insecure members of the community, participants gathered after school to make the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Prior to the event, leadership from both the National Honor Society and ENL Buddy Program helped to coordinate the sixth annual endeavor. ENL Buddy Program representatives also crafted personalized messages on sandwich bags in advance of peanut butter and jelly day to reinforce North’s civic-minded spirit. Student volunteers donated the bread, peanut butter and jelly and helped prepare the cafe for an afternoon of sandwich-making merriment.
