Thomas Zervas Joins South HS as Assistant Principal

The Valley Stream Central High School District was pleased to welcome Thomas Zervas as Assistant Principal of South High School as the new school year began. He was appointed this past June and joins the district from Automotive High School in Brooklyn, where he served as Assistant Principal for eight years. 

In Mr. Zervas’s most recent role, he was responsible for observing and evaluating teaching and learning in various subject areas, supporting schoolwide goals through pedagogical coaching, and supervising and scheduling building personnel, among other tasks. He designed structures to address the student attendance rate that resulted in a 6 percent increase, created and implemented a peer mediation program and collaborated with other administrators to create and support extra-curricular opportunities that resulted in a 50 percent participation increase. 

Earlier in his career, he spent six years as Dean of Students and 12 years as a social studies teacher at Sheepshead Bay High School, also in Brooklyn. 
Mr. Zervas obtained his Master of Science Degree in Education from Queens College, where he also earned his School Building Leadership Specialist certification. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Hofstra University.
