The Valley Stream Central High School District recognized hundreds of Advanced Placement Scholar Award recipients at the Oct. 10 Board of Education Meeting. These recognitions are presented by the College Board based on students’ Advanced Placement examination performances.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich and Board of Education President James Lavery bestowed awards to AP Capstone Diploma recipients, AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors, AP Scholars with Distinctions, AP Seminar & Research Certificate recipients and National AP Scholars from Central, North and South high schools. Special congratulations were extended to 12 National AP Scholars including current seniors Duncan Sheen (Central) and Justin Cange (South).
The district provides an assortment of AP courses, which are of college-level rigor, at Central, North and South high schools. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school. Students can earn college credit, advanced placement or both based on successful performance on the AP exams.
While many of the district’s AP achievers graduated this past June, a number of them are current juniors and seniors. The full list is as follows:
