Goals and Core Principles
The graduation goals of our school
district are to develop students who are self-directed learners,
collaborative workers, complex thinkers, community contributors,
quality producers and aesthetic appreciators.

- We
are committed to providing students with a rich and meaningful
secondary school experience that leads them into opportunities
in their lives beyond high school.
- We
place at the core of our educational philosophy the use of teaching
practices and curricula that enable students to construct meaning.
- We
have high expectations for all students, and staff provides all
students with rigorous cognitive, physical and social challenges.
- We
are committed to understanding students' needs, wants and
goals and to supporting all students in their efforts to be successful.
- We
believe
that success is demonstrated through a variety of methods, such
as student projects, portfolios, performances, high stakes examinations,
and active participation in classroom activities.
- We
value
life-long learning and provide opportunities for all members of
the Valley Stream High School District community to reflect on
their learning and continue their growth and improvement.
- We
seek
to foster trust, respect, honesty and responsibility as personal
characteristics.
- We
expect all members of the community to demonstrate responsibility
and honesty and to earn trust and respect through their daily
behaviors, attitudes and dispositions.
