JUNIOR YEAR

a strong start in school
o Register for and take the PSAT - Prep classes are available through
the Princeton Review/Valley Stream partnership and Adult Education
November/December
o Attend the District College Fair at Central High School
o PSAT results available
o Begin to research a preliminary college list
o Attend District Financial Aid Night at Central High School
December/January
o Register for SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT tests
o Are you on track to meet your graduation requirements?
o Retake Regents exams if necessary - see your guidance counselor
February/March
o Individual parent/student counselor conferences begin
o Attend Junior College Night
o Surf the Web for college, career, and scholarship information
o Begin visiting colleges you have interest in - Spring break is
an excellent time to see colleges
o Begin researching summer opportunities
o Continue to participate in school and community activities
April/May
o Take appropriate SAT/ACT test
o Begin a filing system for college material
o Send for college information
o Make appointments for tours and/or interviews and visit colleges
June
o Take SAT/ACT
o Request teacher recommendation letters
o Take final exams and Regents exams in school
o Finalize your Resume of Activities
July/August
o Do something meaningful during the summer that you can talk about
in essays and interviews
o VISIT COLLEGES
o Begin organizing possible essays for colleges
