200 AP Scholars Honored


The Board of Education recognized the scholastic achievements of 200 Valley Stream Central High School District Advanced Placement Scholars. These students, some of whom graduated in June 2009 and others who are currently seniors in one of the three Valley Stream high schools, were recognized for their achievements on a number of CollegeBoard-sponsored Advanced Placement tests. The current year’s number of 200 is more than double that of 2003 when 85 students were recognized and 18.4% greater than last year’s 168.

 


To be recognized, students must have achieved one of the following designations:

AP Scholar – granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. AP Scholar with Honor - granted to students who receive grades of 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. At North High, these students are: Katherine Callaghan, Lila Kakar, Robin Kurtiakose, Brandon Lee, Nicholas Mugnai, Bryan Nevarez and Xavier O’Connor. At South High, these students are: these students are: Ryan Bhagratti, Alexandra Freeman, Alexa Gieco, Saba Kabir and Christine Rai. At Central High, these students are: Swati Amin, Paula Battista, Stephanie Cabral, Larry Chen, Edacharmaine, Gimenez, Korde Innis, Seo Hee Kim, Sinead Knightly, Laura Koenig, Mayra Malik, Callie Meaney, Danielle Sancho, Alexis Santiago, Amari Snyer and Erik Torres.


AP Scholar with Distinction - granted to students who receive grades of 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. At North High, these students are: Alexander Arata, Nicole Bardabelias, Katherine Callaghan, Michael Lueckheide, Bonnie Marlow, Thomas Pham and Jinna Wang. At South High, these students are: Elia Cabrera, Michael Chung, Chetram Deochand, James Golinkoff, Michael Hung, Jaclyn Jeffrey-Wilensky, Anthony Padua, Nirali Patel, Julia Poje, Amy Ryan, Emily Sherman, Chloe Steindam, Johnathan Topol, Kaylee Wolitzer and Kristen Wraith. At Central High, these students are: Corine Brosseau, Philicia Chandipersaud, Victor Chang, Stephen Christopher, Daniel Ferro, Francis Galvez, Jeremy Joven, Christine Lim, Sonia Motwani, Anthony Okolo, Cynthia Perez, Jessica Petrauskas, James Pollitt, Christopher Roberts, Melody Tan, Marcela Villa and Azeem Wasay.


AP National Scholar - granted to students who receive grades of 4 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. Five Valley Stream students earned the designation of National AP Scholar. They are Michael Leuckheide and Mohammad Qadri from North High School, Michael Hung and Nirali Patel from South High School and Melody Tan from Central High School, all from the Class of 2009.
