Students in all three Valley Stream Central High School District schools have been named Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.  These scholastically talented seniors are: Luke Demas from Central High School; Thomas Bardabelias, Toluwani Dawodu, Jaslyn Fan, Mohammad Qadri, and Charles Sanky from North High School and David Li from South High School. 

Approximately 34,000 students throughout the nation received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
