The Fine and Performing Arts Department in the Valley Stream CHSD offers a wide variety of opportunities for students in grades 7-12. We have band, orchestra, and chorus at every grade level, and extra-curricular groups in jazz (both instrumental and vocal), wind ensemble, brass choir, men's and women's choir, and gospel choir. In addtion to studio art, we offer cartooning, web design, photography, ceramics, and fashion design. We also have a full scale performing arts program that is available to HS students district-wide. These students complete a curriculum that includes movement and dance, musical theater, and acting. The CHSD is also very proud to offer AP programs in both music and art at all three high schools.

FOUR SELECTED TO NYSSMA ALL-STATE CONFERENCE

The Valley Stream CHSD is pleased to announce that five students have been selected to perform at the NYSSMA 76th Annual Winter Conference held in Rochester, NY during the first week of December. These students were selected by audition, from 11th and 12th grade students across New York State, based on scores they received at the solo festival last year. These students are:

Danielle Andreani - Clarinet - Symphonic Band - North HS

Christine Cinnamo - Alto - Mixed Chorus - North HS

Michela Christianson - Viola - Symphony Orchestra - South HS

Jason Shen - Piano - Wind Ensemble - Central HS

Additionally, Jason was selected to perform in the Piano Showcase held that weekend as well. The CHSD also had Richard Arriaga from Central HS selected as an alternate to the choir.
