Valley Stream Central High School Assistant Principal for Attendance and Discipline Mathew Pearson was presented with a 2019 Administrator of the Year award by the Council of Administrators and Supervisors. This annual distinction is bestowed upon an educational leader who has gone above and beyond in their services to students and staff members.

Mr. Pearson has been an integral member of Central’s administration since 2013, when he first joined the district. He was nominated for this award by Principal Dr. Joseph Pompilio and Assistant Principal Robert Milani.

“Trying to have a schoolwide impact, knowing the students and building and keeping relationships between students and teachers” are among the goals he cited regarding his position at Central. He also manages issues and concerns and helps to oversee security matters.

“Mr. Pearson clearly communicates expectations to students, provides relevance for them and provides practical advice without extended lectures,” said Dr. Pompilio. “Students feel he listens and understands. I am certain that he will continue to effectively communicate with students and parents.”

The CAS consists of over 1,400 public school administrators in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and presents the Administrator of the Year Awards to those who exemplify the highest qualities of school administrative leadership including achievement, vision, innovation and collaboration with parents, students, staff and administrators.
