Valley Stream CHSD Appoints Assistant Christian Bowen as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
The Valley Stream Central High School District is pleased to announce Christian Bowen as the next Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, following the retirement of Dr. Thomas Troisi at the end of the school year. Mr. Bowen, who has worked closely with Dr. Troisi for the past several years, will commence his new role on July 1.

As Director of Instructional Services in the district since 2016, Mr. Bowen has collaborated with Dr. Troisi on numerous curricular and technology initiatives, professional development, and State mandates. He is part of an interdistrict curriculum council with the three elementary districts to provide a smooth transition into the Central High School District.

Mr. Bowen has worked to integrate more STEAM opportunities and was instrumental in launching the district’s Online Learning Academy in 2017-18. He presented on the academy, which provides students with unique course options such as Veterinary Science, Entrepreneurship, Gaming and more, at the 2018 Long Island Tech Summit. He has also overseen departmental chairpersons, coordinated various grant opportunities and provided training for new teachers.

Before his work in Valley Stream, Mr. Bowen served as a mathematics chairperson in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District and before that, was a lead mathematics teacher, programmer and data specialist at the School for International Studies in Brooklyn. He obtained his Master of Science degrees in School Leadership and Adolescent Education from Pace University and his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical Science from The Johns Hopkins University.

“I’m thrilled to take on the role. I’ve learned a great deal from Dr. Troisi and hope to take our district to the next level,” Mr. Bowen said. “The leadership team and staff here are topnotch, and it shows in our graduation rates, Regents and AP results, and school culture.  I want to thank Dr. Heidenreich and the Board of Ed. for this exciting opportunity.”
