The students from the North High School Ecology club had a great time on their trip to Crossroads farm on June 3. They learned about organic and biodynamic farming and were able to see, pick, and smell herbs and vegetables that are being grown this year. The students were also excited to complete the chore of the day, planting cucumbers! For some, this was a first time experience, while others have planted at home in the past and were eager to get involved again. Earth Science class content was tied into the event to connect the curriculum to the farm activities. For example, students learned that pumice, an igneous rock with gas pockets, is used in potting soil to help keep the soil moist because it can hold water. The students are also excited to bring what they learned to North and the courtyard.
