STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Student Council
Student Council is the voice of Central High School; a student
government dedicated to monitoring conditions and activities in
the building. As a council it listens to students suggestions,
meets regularly with the principal and other faculty members in
order to help make Central the best possible place to learn in.
Class of 2008
The Class of 2007 helps provide activities that will help the
sophomores create new friendships, and learn to organize and exhibit
individual skills for the benefit of the class.
Class
of 2007
The class of 2006 helps organize all of the 11th grade activities
including Homecoming, spirit week participation, fund-raising,
and the Senior breakfast. They begin to plan their Senior Prom.
Class of 2006
The Senior class works together and shares their special talents
and abilities to organize and develop fund-raisers, class week,
homecoming, Senior Prom, and graduation.
HONOR
SOCIETIES
Foreign
Language Honor Society
Membership in foreign language club is based on academic excellence in a second
language. The aim of the club is to promote awareness of foreign languages, cultures,
and customs.
Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta is Centrals Math Honor Society. Membership requires an overall
average of 90% through three years of Regent level Math courses. The students
tutor other students, create and maintain Centrals Web site, and participate
in a National Math exam called AHSME.
National Honor Society
National Honor Society membership is open to 11th and 12th graders
who exhibit excellence in scholarship, character, leadership and
school service. There is an induction ceremony in December and
participation in various activities within the school and the
community.
Science
Honor Society
Science Honor Society organizes activities to enrich classroom
experiences. All members must have completed 2 Regents Science
courses with at least an 85 average.
TRI – M Honor Society
The TRI – M Music
Honor Society is open to all Central students that are involved
in any of the school’s music programs. Members perform
within the school as well as in the community. Members also assist
with many of the concerts throughout the school year. Students
that were inducted at Memorial Jr. High School are automatically
considered members at Central as long as they maintain in good
attendance.
LITERARY
PUBLICATIONS
Cadet Yearbook
The Cadet Yearbook Staff publishes Central High Schools yearbook.
Responsibilities of the staffers include layout, copy, artwork,
business, and photography.
Wings Literary
Magazine
WINGS, Centrals Literary-Art Magazine spends the school
year composing and revising poems and stories written by club
members. Students write and critique each others work in
a friendly atmosphere and prepare it for publication.
Crier
Crier is Centrals news magazine. It is open to all students
who have an interest in either creative writing or journalism.
SPECIAL
INTEREST CLUBS
COMPUTER
CLUB
This club meets in the MacLab at Central. It is open to all Central
students who have an interest in computers and technology. The
students will learn new computer programs and software
FBLA
Future
Business Leaders of America is a nonprofit education association
of students who are interested in careers in business and
business- related fields. The FBLA Mission is to bring business
and education together in a positive working relationship
through innovative leadership and career development programs.
Mathletes. This club is open to all students who have an interest
and excel in mathematics. The team competes in Nassau County
Mathletes competitions.
FUTURE MEDICAL LEADERS
The Future Medical Leaders was created
by and for students interested in pursuing a career in the Medical/Science
fields of study. Students have provided information/presentations/
debates on medical school programs, colleges, controversial medical
topics (cloning, prescribed psychiatric drugs, etc), as well
as internships in local professional facilities. Students have
also volunteered their time at local hospitals, providing musical
and performing arts entertainment for geriatric patients while
earning community service credits-good character and resume builders!
Fundraising events included donations of all proceeds from the
Valentine Rose sale for the Tsunami relief (last year), and this
year towards the Hurricane relief (American Red Cross).
HOMEWORK CLUB
The Homework Club is a place where all students
can go to work on makeup homework with the assistance of quality
instructors. All students are welcome and refreshments are served.
The group meets on Tuesdays 3:00pm – 4:00pm and Thursdays
2:30 – 3:30 in room 121.
LANGUAGE CLUB
The Language Club offers students the
opportunity to discuss and be part of the multi – cultural
activities for Central High School.
QUIZ BOWL
Quiz Bowl is made up of two teams; a Varsity and Junior Varsity
team. The team is open to all students who like to compete against
various other schools on Long Island. There is an elimination
process to have a Long Island Quiz Bowl championship team.
FINE
ARTS/PERFORMING CLUBS
JAZZ BAND
Jazz Band is a non-credit extracurricular program
selected for 10-12th grade students active within the Central
High School Music Department who are interested in jazz studies.
The group is limited to stage band instrumentation: saxophones,
trumpets, trombones, piano (keyboard), guitar, bass guitar, and
drums. Performances have included: Cabaret Concerts, National
Honor Society Inductions, Lights on for Education, Charities,
and school assemblies
PHOTOGRAPHY
CLUB
Photography club teaches students how to develop and print photographs.
Students participate in art day, photography contests, and photography
workshops for teachers.
SELECT CHOIR
The Select choir draws from a number of
musical genres. The group sings Gospel, Jazz, and Pop throughout
the year in a very enthusiastic manner. The choir meets on Mondays
3:00pm – 4:00pm in the choral room.
SET CONSTRUCTION
The
Set Production Club works along side of the Central Music and
Performing Arts departments. The
club builds all of props that are necessary for the plays and
musical performances that take place in Keller Auditorium. The
Set Production Club is responsible for the creating and breaking
down all of the sets for Central High School’s theatrical
performances. The crew begins work 5 weeks before a scheduled
performance.
TECH CREW
The Tech Crew is an extra curricular club
for students interested in the technical aspects of performance
production. Students gain skills in lighting, sound, and stage
management, primarily through the practical work environment
of the Drama, Musical, and Dance productions Central and Memorial
put on each year. The Tech Crew also assists in providing sound
for graduation.

Environmental
Club
The environmental club is for students who want to make a difference.
There are many fund-raising activities that enable the club to
donate money to a variety of wildlife and environmental causes.
Mentoring Club
Students from Central go to Memorial and tutor
at risk students 2 days a week for 45 minutes.
Peace Club
The Peace Club is open to all students interested in extending
good will and educating others. Activities include: AIDS red ribbon
day, clothing drives, guest speakers, Walk-A-Thons, and participation
in Earth Day.
Peer Mediation
The Peer mediation program is comprised of students who are trained
in conflict resolution, to help settle problems or disputes between
students. Mediators act as a go-between for people in conflict
to help them arrive at constructive resolutions.
SADD
Students
Against Destructive Decisions is an organization of students
who care about the effects of drugs
and alcohol on driving. SADD explores all destructive decisions
that affect teenagers today; date rape, eating disorders, bias,
AIDS, STD’s, tobacco, and organizations. The club participates
in many events.
Varsity
Club
The Varsity Club provides students with opportunities to become
more actively involved in school activities and community affairs.
It provides fund-raisers, extracurricular events, scholarship
opportunities and community services.

Weight
Training Club
The weight training club is open to all students at Central. The
focus is on muscular fitness and cardiovascular programs.
