This course is divided into two components: The working citizen and Personal Resource Management. These components are designed to give the student an introduction to realities of the working world and the management of their personal resources.

 

Career Vocabulary List

Job Lead-Information about a job opening.

Networking - Communicating with people you know or can get to know to share information and advice.

Contact List- A list of people you know.

Referral - Someone such as your aunt's neighbor to whom you've been directed, or referred.

Social security number - An identification number issued by the federal government.

Work permit - Shows that you have been advised of laws restricting the hours young people can work.

Resume - A brief summary of your personal information, education, activities, skills, work experiences and interests.

Cover letter- A one-page letter telling the employer who you are and why you are sending the resume.

Interview - A formal meeting between an employer and a job applicant

Body language - Gestures, posture and eye contact you use to send messages.

Stress- Mental or physical tension that is the body's natural response to conflict.
