Before you can begin creating your page, you need to
make sure you indicate the site properties within Dreamweaver MX. This
allows you to keep your site synchronized and consistent from within
Dreamweaver. The Site tab section shows tools that allow you to easily
access a visual representation of your files and transfer those files
to a web server. Before beginning a site, you should always define the
local folder on your computer and the remote location where the site
will be stored.
First, you will need to define the location of your site
on your computer. To do this, you will need to click Site from the top
text menu and select "Manage Sites."

Select "New" in the Manage Sites dialog box.

The opening screen for site definition is shown below. I
have answered the inquiry, "What would you like to name your site?"
using my userid followed by an underscore and web. Mine is
"stancoa_web" without the quotes. After naming your site click
next.

Once the location has been defined, you need to indicate that you will
NOT be using server technology. The use of server technology indicates
the use of database technology in your pages.

You will then select that you wish to edit your files on
your machine and upload them to your web server later.
