Student Government

Senior High Student Council
The Senior High Student Council is an elected body that serves as a sounding board/liaison between students and the Administration. In addition, the Senior High Student Council is responsible for coordinating many after school and extra-curricular events which include Pep Rallies, the King & Queen Contest, the Homecoming Parade, the Battle of the Grades, the Class Acts Talent Competition, charity events, the Daffodils Sale for the American Cancer Society, and the Student/Faculty/Parents Talent Show.
Open to Grades: 10th - 12th Grade
Officers: Elections for Senior High Student Council will take place in September.
NOTE: All Senior High Student Council officers and 10th-12th grade council officers must attend Senior High Student Council meetings. Other interested students in grades 10-12 are welcome.

Junior High Student Council
The Junior High Student Council is an elected body that serves as a sounding board/liaison between students and the Administration. In addition, the Junior High Student Council is responsible for coordinating extra-curricular events on the junior high school level and for assisting the Senior High Student Council when necessary.
Open to Grades: 7th - 9th Grade
Officers: Elections for Junior High Student Council will take
place in September.
NOTE: All Junior High Student Council officers and 7th-9th grade council officers must attend Junior High Student Council meetings. Other interested students in grades 7-9 are welcome.

Grade Councils
Each grade is assigned a grade advisor whose job it is to help organize the grade. The organizing consists of holding yearly elections for grade officers and assisting these officers in collecting dues and planning activities and social events such as Homecoming festivities, dances and fund raisers.
Grade meetings are held on a regular basis and students are encouraged to attend these open meetings to voice their feelings and ideas in the planning of activities.

To help meet certain financial obligations such as "Yearbook," each student is asked to pay dues to offset expenses of social events. The dues structure at North High is as follows:

7th Grade $3.00
8th Grade $4.00
9th Grade $5.00
10th Grade $6.00
11th Grade $7.00
12th Grade $8.00

Student Organizations

(Varsity) Cheerleaders
Develop qualities of leadership, discipline and group participation. Provide students with competitive experiences via Suffolk County Brentwood Cheerleading Competition and the Tri-State USA Cheerleading competition in New Jersey

To involve students in the production of plays - on stage and behind the scenes.

Ecology Club
To involve students in an awareness of environmental issues and projects for the betterment of the environment.

FHA (Focus on Human Awareness)/Kids on the Block
FHA is a national organization. It helps students develop personal leadership skills, experience the satisfaction of helping and working with others, develop employability skills, understand themselves and their relationships with others, gain new friends, explore the changing roles of women and men, gain recognition for accomplishments, and explore career opportunities.
Open to Grades: 8th - 12th Grade - NOT FOR WOMEN ONLY!!

Occupation Education Honor Society
Home Economics Honor Society is a service and an honorary organization. Activities includes special projects, which help meet the needs of the North High community, and field trips exploring careers in home economics related fields.
Open to Grades: By invitation only

Interact Club
The Interact Club is an outgrowth of the Valley Stream Rotary Club; it is a service organization that works for needy causes and provides community service. The club assists the Valley Stream Rotary Club with international student-exchange program.
Open to Grades: 7th - 12th Grade

It's Academic
Prepare for competition with other schools in subject matter from school subjects to trivia.
Open to Grades: 9th - 12th Grade

Language Honor Society
Language Honor Society is a service organization which helps meet the needs of the North High community. Activities include tutoring students who need extra help in language.

Math Honor Society
Math Honor Society is a service organization which helps meet the needs of the North High community. Activities include tutoring students who need extra help in math.
Open to Grades: By invitation only

(Junior High) Mathletes
Work on math problems to prepare students for interschool competition throughout Nassau County.
Open to Grades: 7th - 9th Grade

(Senior High) Mathletes
Work on math problems to prepare students for interschool competitions.
Open to Grades: 9th - 12th Grade

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is an honorary organization to which eligible students are inducted. In order to be eligible, students must have at least an 85% cumulative average, be active in school activities, possess leadership qualities, and be of good character. Selection is made by a Faculty Evaluation Committee; candidates are notified by mail of acceptance. Meetings are held when and if necessary. Once inducted, members must continue to maintain their good standing. They will occasionally be asked to be of assistance to the school in various capacities, as deemed necessary.

"North Star" (A school news magazine)
To provide and publish the school news magazine. Provides an opportunity to write, do cartooning, take photographs, and work on the word processor.
Open to Grades: 7th - 12th Grade

"Northern Front" (A literary magazine)
To provide an opportunity for students to create and publish original stories, poems, art work, photographs, etc.
Open to Grades: 7th - 12th Grade

Rangerettes (Kickline)
Develop dancing skills and qualities of leadership, discipline and group participation via kickline practice and interschool competitions.
Open to Grades: 7th - 12th Grade


SADD (Students Against Distructive Decision)

To involve students in educating their peers about the problems of drinking and driving.
Open to Grades: 7th - 12th Grade

Science Honor Society
Science Honor Society is a service organization which helps meet the needs of the North High community. Activities include tutoring students who need extra help in science.
Open to Grades: By invitation only


SPO (Student Peer Organization)

Upperclassmen help younger students adjust to junior high school life. Open to Grades: 11th - 12th Grade

S.T.O.P. (Students to Oppose Prejudice)
The goal of this club is to help students understand their rights and the rights of others and to help them develop concern for the well-being and dignity of all. Club activities are planned by North students to help us all appreciate and enjoy the diversity in our school, community and society.

Table Tennis Club
To play and participate in school tournaments (optional).

Theater Management
To involve students in the backstage activities (i.e. lighting, etc.) required for school productions.

Tri-M is an honorary organization for students who excel in music.
